I am including a list of frequently asked questions that
I am asked by mail. If you find that your question is not
included here, feel free to e-mail me and I will do my best to
answer the question for you.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing treatment that is done
by Reiki practitioners who put their hands above the
energy centers on the body and let the Universal Life Force
Energy flow through her/him out their palms and into the
recipient. Reiki will bring the mental, physical, emotional and
spiritual issues of the person into greater balance.
What is the difference
between healing and curing someone with Reiki?
One can receive healing but may not be cured of a physical
ailment. When Reiki heals it restores balance to the body, but
the cause of the illness still might be within. So, we can't
say that one is cured. An emotional issue may be causing a
physical symptom and until that emotional issue is solved by
the owner, the physical symptoms may still appear or reappear
and may not be cured.
Are there some
illnesses that Reiki can't be used on?
Reiki can be used on all illnesses. Many clients have
experienced accelerated healing. Reiki reduces stress and
pain. Chemo and radiation patients notice a decrease in side
effects from treatment. It also has allowed individuals to
depart from this earth with resolution and a state of peace.
That doesn't mean that everyone who experiences Reiki will be
cured. Reiki will help to bring balance to the body, mind and
spirit and can relieve or even remove symptoms. It is always
the recipients belief and intention to heal that allows the
process to happen. It is the recipients choice to heal. It took
a long time for some illnesses to develop and may take time and
patience for them to heal.
What do I have to do to
receive a distant reiki treatment?
There is nothing to do. The distant reiki treatment will
arrive no matter what you will be doing, so just go about your
life. All that is needed is the practitioner's intent to send
one and the recipient's permission to receive. It is the same
for distant attunements, as long as permission has been given,
they will arrive.
How does the distant
reiki treatment work?
It is the practitioners focus and intent to send the energy
to the person requesting treatment that makes it happen. The
practitioner uses one of the symbols (taught in Level ll Reiki)
that is specifically used for sending distant energy. The
energy can be sent at a specific time or the practitioner sends
it to happen when the recipient wants to receive it. A distant
treatment is usually shorter than in person (20-30 min). The
energy can be sent to help specific problems in the present,
past or in the future.

What can I feel during
a distant treatment?
You can feel heat, tingling, coldness or may have some visual
experiences. All are normal. If nothing is felt that does not
mean the treatment was unsuccessful. Reiki will heal, if
nothing is felt that means that Reiki was working on some
issues other than physical.
Can I request a distant
healing for someone else?
Yes you can. In situations however where the person needing
the healing can't be asked their permission to send Reiki, many
practitioners will not send Reiki unless permission is received
from the person needing the reiki healing. Nothing is forced on
someone who may not wish the energy or healing. Everyone's
wishes must be respected. In that case a prayer can be sent
their way.
What can I do to help
during a Reiki Treatment?
During the reiki healing session you can try to relax as much
as possible and mentally open your mind to receiving the
healing energy. Even if you do not have faith in it, by keeping
an open or unbiased mind, it can assist the flow of healing
energy.
Do you ever get tired
or run down from giving Reiki treatments?
It is a channeled healing, the Reiki practitioner's
energies are not depleted.
It is not the practitioner's energy being used! The
practitioner is channeling "Universal Life Force Energy". The
energy that surrounds us and sustains life! It is the energy
from the "God Source" or, the "Higher Power!"
The Reiki practitioner is channeling this healing energy, so,
as he/she is giving a treatment she/he is also receiving the
benefits as well!
Whenever I finish giving a Reiki treatment my energy level is
increased and I feel very relaxed and peaceful .
Do you need to
concentrate in order to channel the reiki energy?
When a Reiki practitioner's hands are placed on or near you the
Reiki energy `turns on' automatically. There is no conscious
effort needed on the part of the practitioner. If you have been
initiated to Reiki, you simply have to place your hands on or
near the body.
I have heard about a 21
day cleansing process that follows Reiki? What happens?
After a Reiki treatment or attunement you may
experience some physical, emotional, mental or spiritual
complaints as the body goes through a 21 day cleansing process
(or you may notice nothing). Issues, old patterns, beliefs may
come up to be challenged and as this happens new understandings
will bring in a new foundation. Issues are being healed on
every level of your being.
Is Reiki Safe?
Yes, Reiki never does harm. It is a gentle form of healing.
There have been no reported cases of negative effects from
Reiki.
Does Reiki have
anything to do with religion?
Reiki is not a religion. Reiki is very spiritual in nature,
but there is nothing you are required to believe in before you
can learn and use Reiki. Reiki will work whether someone
believes in it or not!
When you are giving
someone a treatment, what are you feeling?
How do you know the energy is flowing?
Once one places their hands in position to start a Reiki
treatment ,within a few seconds the palms of the Reiki
practitioner will start to become quite warm.
Other sensations that might be felt are tingling, pins and
needles, cold.
It is important to note that the sensation will vary during
every Reiki session and person treated and the sensation felt
by the recipient of a treatment can be very different to that
felt by the practitioner.
If I practice Reiki are
there different amounts of energy flow?
Yes, the more Reiki you practice and do, the more energy you
will have flowing through you.
Can Reiki be used with
other therapies?
Yes, it can be combined and enhances other therapies.
It will enhance the effects of other complementary healing
modalities such as massage, acupuncture, shiatsu, reflexology,
aromatherapy, chiropractic, color therapy, homeopathy and many
others.
Many practitioners of other modalities have reported that
their work has intensified since learning Reiki.
What Levels of Reiki
are there and what will I be able to do with each?
I teach 3 Levels of Reiki
Level 1 you will learn how to give a
reiki treatment to yourself and others.
Level 2 one is taught 3 Reiki symbols,
one of which you will learn how to send energy distantly and be
able to give a distant treatment.
Level 3 you will learn more symbols and
be able to give attunements and initiate others into
Reiki, as well as teach Reiki. One does not have to teach Reiki
as this is a personal choice. Other Masters may split the
Master/Teacher into 2 levels.
What is an attunement?
It is an initiation into the different Levels of Reiki given
by a Reiki Master. It involves the Reiki Master using the Reiki
symbols (Level ll & lll Reiki) and visualizing the symbols
entering the students body and opening up the channel for Reiki
to flow. If this is not done in person then the Master
visualizes the person in front of them while visualizing the
process of giving the attunement. It is my experience that
Distant attunements can be just as powerful as having one done
in person.
How can I pick a Reiki
Master to teach me?
There are many ways to find a Reiki practitioner. It is
important to be discerning and to choose the Reiki Master who
you feel will best nurture your personal spiritual healing,
growth and life purpose. You can look on the web, there are
many directories of Reiki practitioners to choose from. The
best thing to do is ask questions and within the responses you
should be able to get a gut feeling with the person who
resonates the best with you. "When you are choosing an energy
therapy, the best approach is the one that is the softest and
the gentlest, that avoids dangerous procedures, that treats the
client as the "whole" individual, that encourages the body's
natural healing processes to do their job, and in which the
client takes a positive and active part in his or her own
recovery and health maintenance." It is good to feel
comfortable and open to receiving an attunement from the
person. It is good for the person to have patience and be
available for questions. You must be allowed to go at your own
pace when you feel comfortable doing something. Do what you
would do when you are looking for other services, use common
sense. When in doubt, walk away.

Can I become a Reiki
Master or Practitioner?
Anyone can become a Reiki practitioner. The ability to learn
Reiki is not dependent on your intellect , spiritual or
religious beliefs. The ability to use Reiki is taught and
transferred to the student by a qualified Reiki Master
Teacher during an attunement process. At one time Reiki Master
level cost $10,000 but after one of Reiki's leaders died
(Takata) Masters who were attuned in the 80's started to
lower the price so that Reiki could be available to more
people. Today if you look around you will find varying prices
from $10,000 to free.
Can I be attuned and be
taught from different Masters?
Yes, you can. Some of the symbols might be different, but
that is not a problem.
Can I just take Reiki
Level 1?
Yes, that is all that some people feel they need. They just
want to do Reiki on themselves, family or friends.
What about my pets, can
they have Reiki?
Most animals like the energy. You may have to modify the
treatment a little if they don't like to sit for long, but it
can heal animals.
Can I just use Reiki
instead of seeing a doctor?
Reiki enhances traditional medical treatments. Reiki can be
used in combination with medical treatment. Reiki is not a
substitute if you have a medical concern, always consult with
your physician if you have a complaint..
I have a lot of energy.
Can I learn to harness this energy for others?
Reiki doesn't use a practitioner's energy. You would get
fatigued using your own. Reiki is energy that comes from the
Universal Source. Reiki practitioners channel the Universal
Life Energy through their body so that the recipient can use
what they need. A practitioner should never use their own
energy, but it can happen when a practitioner is invested in
the treatment (strongly wants a person to heal). It is best to
detach and trust Reiki and the person to heal themselves. The
choice to heal is always up to the recipient.

What are the Reiki
symbols?
They are a way for the practitioner to focus the energy when
giving a treatment. Each symbol has a specific meaning and use.
They are also used in giving an attunement, to initiate a
student into different Levels of Reiki. The symbols are taught
in Level 2 and 3 of Reiki. Some feel the symbols are just
training wheels which may eventually be discarded after your
comfortable with sending just the intent of something.
Why are there different
prices in Reiki treatments and Course Levels? This is
confusing.
Reiki has no governing body to regulate its practitioners.
Everyone chooses pricing from their own beliefs. Some feel it
should be free (it is a free energy). Others feel that our
world places value on things that they pay for (money is how we
show we value something, and if we do not devalue or waste what
we value, it will be more effective.). Some feel if the prices
are high only the serious will apply. The practitioner's have
expenses of their own to pay, and feel their time is as
valuable as everyone else's when providing a service. Some
practitioners don't rely on the income generated from their
Reiki practice to pay their living expenses and can charge a
low fee or teach for free. High prices don't always mean higher
quality of teaching. I would ask what benefit you would be
getting for paying very high fees (maybe your looking for a
specific lineage?). Find out what you would be taught for the
fees you pay.
I am seeing so many
different Reiki's, they all say they are the only one doing
Reiki right and everyone else is wrong? What are the
differences?
Yes, you will find many different types, fees, guidelines for
teaching and learning Reiki. I see alot of similarities
in religion right now. There are different types of religions,
they are different but no one is better than the rest (even
though great wars are fought over this issue). You just have to
find what resonates with you, what feels right and matches your
beliefs.
I am seeing negative
beliefs among some Reiki practitioners. A lot of judgments of
others. Why?
Reiki is like everything else. It is used and practiced by
humans. Humans are not gods or perfect, and everyone has their
own beliefs, judgments and motives for doing something.
When am I ready to move
on to the next Reiki level?
There are different views concerning the length of time that
different masters feel should be the correct time to move on to
a different level of Reiki. I personally feel that it is a
matter of personal preference. The student should listen to
their inner voice, when they have experience with their current
level and have learned the techniques, symbols, their heart
will always tell them when they are ready to move on. Some who
have been working with energy may feel ready to progress faster
than someone who has no experience with energy. We are in a
time of greatly accelerated energy and today we live in
extremely powerful energies of all kinds. In the past these
powerful energies we live in today would have a great impact on
people. Today we are used to higher energies and their
influence, so what once seemed to be a great adjustment is not
that profound to most people receiving attunements. Our bodies
and energy vibration have been raised as time as gone on.
